American Tradition
American Traditional Food Restaurant in White Plains NY
Emma's is one of my favourites of the beaten path of mainstream White Plains NY. Food and service are often good and the lager selection is outstanding. A great place to grab dinner and a drink with friends after work. Emma's is one of the finest Eateries in White Plains NY.
Adored the vibe, the drinks, and the menu.......I was there with six folk on Sat. night. We waited an hour for a table, although we had reservations and we did not really mind. The noise level was discordant.
The menu was terrific and masses of things that I wanted to try, but sadly I wasn't impressed with the execution of a number of them :
The chicken lollipop appetizer is supposed to be the double boned wing piece with one bone removed and the meat pushed to the bottom and the little bone serving as the "lollipop stick" Here, they took a shortcut and employed the thicker wing bone and cut the end off. It was beefy but messier to eat that way.
The macaroni and cheese with smoked bacon and peas was outstanding.
The spinach and artichoke dip with pita looked gorgeous but honestly, was unfit.
The French onion soup broth tasted great ( not cloyingly sweet or salty as so often found ) but the cheese wasn't crispy on top from a salamander ( broiler ), notwithstanding specifically asking for it be browned. It appeared like provolone or commercial mozzarella that was softened in a broiler.
The chicken pot pie tasted good. It was served in a round ramekin bowl, not much larger than the onion soup bowl with a bit of puff pastry that was baked separately from the pie and placed on top. The filling was flavorful but the entire thing left me wanting more .
I tasted my wife's Filet Mignon special. We both thought that it was a little tough but the sauce was delicious.
We kept watching these beautiful looking desserts being served so we ordered 3 for the table. The Sticky toffee with vanilla ice cream was rather more like a bread pudding. I loved it but others were not thrilled. They preferred the warm chocolate cake with ice cream, which I was less crazy about. The apple tart with cinnamon ice cream was popular too.
All in all, I would say I was quite pleased with the experience and I am concerned to try more of the menu. If you're looking out for a quiet relaxed dining experience, this isn't the place for you on a Saturday night. If you are looking for a casual pub with particularly reasonable costs, and probably good food, then I strongly recommend Emma's. For us, it is a decent alternative to our common hang-outs.

Is it an African American tradition to pray before they eat ?
Even over stuff as simple as fruit and candy. I have two black friends both who are African American (neither knows each other) .Whenever Im with either of them I notice they both seem to say something under thier breath before they eat something. Is this stictly an african american thing or what.

You need to be concerned about REAL things, not that your friends thank God.
