When is anger acceptable?
Just some examples...
- I express frustration that the concept of "slower traffic keep right" is completely lost on way too many drivers.
- I use some device that has some design flaw that causes some inconvenience (say, a new blender leaking out of the top) and it ticks me off.
- I use a cell phone, and get frustrated because calls drop or the sound is horrible even when the signal claims to be strong on both ends.
In these and similar situations it is common for people to criticize me for getting angry. Like I'm somehow demonstrating some flaw by being (negatively) affected.
Why is it OK to be positively affected by something that works well? ("Wow, this blender is awesome!")

I feel I should add that my anger has never led to violence toward another person, and I don't scream out my complaints.
Anger is not the issue - it is how it is expressed. All the things you mentioned would frustrate the heck out of anyone. If people are commenting on how you handle those things, then the problem is not your feelings but your actions. The only time anger is unacceptable is when it leads to behavior that is harmful to other people, property, etc. And even if you keep it inside and direct it at yourself, you are going to have repercussions. There are many books on managing stress and anger.
My daughter was very much like you when she was a teenager. Even though she objected, I made her keep a journal every day for one month; every night she had to write down at least 3 good things that had happened that day. No, it wasn't an overnight epiphany, but it was the beginning of a whole different attitude for her when she realized that, not only did more good things happen than she realized, but that it felt REALLY good to think about them.
Lastly - your sentence about the blender working well - THAT is the ultimate key. Force yourself to devote as much energy to what goes right as what goes wrong. Every time I encounter someone in a customer service position (waiter, operator, you name it) who has been patient, pleasant, or helpful, I ask for their name, ask to talk to their manager, and commend them for a job well done.
