I bought my pans per a recommendation of Cuisine at Home magazine, which periodically reviews cooking/kitchen items. They infinitely prefer All-Clad, which is admittedly great and the pros adore it, but I'm not going to go out and spend $800+ dollars on a set of cookware. They want $135 for a skillet - ack!
They found Sur La Table's brand of cookware to be very similar in style, function and construction with the exception of having a thinner core - there is nothing out there as thick as All-Clad, but Sur La Table's is a good compromise for the price - the same 12" skillet is $90.
I've never cooked on Calphalon's "infused anodized" surface and only rarely use non-stick. I am a big fan of cooking on stainless to create a nice brown crust in the pan, which I then deglaze with broth, wine or other liquid for sauce, and it's generally not possible to deglaze in non-stick.
I do have one non-stick pan (an Anolon from way back) that I use for making some things. My personal recommendation is to buy a set of stainless cookware (if cost is no object then go for the All-Clad - you won't be disappointed) and then one good-sized non-stick skillet in whatever brand you choose.
