Is Cutco A Rip-Off Or Is It A Legit Stay-At-Home Job?
There are two main themes to the CUTCO song: Knives and chances at a Work-at-Home job.
Many who have investigated working with CUTCO and doing demos have been exposed to some bad press. Does CUTCO take advantage of people? Watch as we examine Vector Marketing, and then we will understand why these claims are made.
CUTCO acquired Vector Marketing in 1985, making it the marketing and sales distribution wing of CUTCO. New employees were trained for sales assignments within it.
Many higher-learning students are recruited by Vector as they are looking for job opportunities. Vector places advertisements on cork boards and in periodicals. Each new employee is first interviewed and required to purchase or rent CUTCO knives for demos, usually a $150 purchase. Sometimes this is refundable, but many claim that the scams begin at this point.
Supervisors certainly keep tabs on new employees, though many claim that this amounts to pressure. These employees are encouraged to make many engagements very quickly. Salespeople make 10% of each sale, or even up to 25% of the total sale. In any case, many new salespeople make little money in doing all of this.
CUTCO: a Rip-off?
It can be very useful to use the internet to investigate other opinions on Vector marketing and CUTCO. One site that has compiled much information about the supposed scam is Yahoo Answers -- answers.yahoo.com -- which contains the following abbreviated incarnation of a few opinions.
"Outside sales, sort of like Mary Kay or Avon, only much more pressure."
"Quality products but lots of underhanded sales strategies"
"The cutlery is of good quality, but most quit following the first day because the work is demanding and the initial investment is substantial.."
"Having a hard time selling an $800 knife set, especially in these times..."
"Supervisors say that most consider it a rip-off because they refuse to work a sufficient amount."
"CUTCO is good...hang on to the initial knives or give them away if you quit..."
"Sure, Vector is a rip-off in essence, but it is possible to make cake if you are good at talking and sales."
"This thing isn't a rip-off, but many that try make no money. You have to be good at sales, talking, and finding a customer base to succeed with it..."
Our studies have concluded that the people who gave the sales a go or know somebody who has still like the knives. Suggestions that CUTCO is a rip-off perpetuate because Vector uses such pressure-filled strategies to train their newer sales force.
Outside sales and networking could work for many to earn extra funds, but it isn't easy work. Few have an inborn propensity for sales, but any can learn the tricks of the trade if they keep an open mind and never quit.

Selling Cutco in Canada-Border Policies and Legalities?
Over the christmas break between semesters, I am going to Montreal for two weeks to visit family. I am working as a sales representative for Cutco Cutlery in New York and I was concerned about the legalities of selling cutco in another country. Right now im doing pretty well for my self selling the knives and this could certainly help. Im sure there are various tax laws that I don't know about and explaining to the border patrol my car is full of knives probably won't go over to well. My aunt sounds excited to help me out, but I don't want or need any legal mess any time soon. Suggestions?
I did the Cutco thing for awhile, ugh never again. Sorry I am not familiar enough with Canadian law to help you out, but yes all the knives in your car may give you issues with border police.
