Sculpted Beer Bottle Cake?
I have never scuplted a cake before so i decided to sculpt a beer bottle cake and then cover it with fondant for my brothers birthday. Is this too hard for a novice decorator? Any tips? Thanks!
How novice are you? Complete cake virgin?
#Make a sheet cake and using three sizes of circular (circle) cutters, cut the cake.
#Stack several of the largest size circles vertically. Frost normally.
#When you reach a prescribed height use the next smaller size cake circle, this is the shoulder of the bottle.
You may want to cut the top edge of the cake circle to begin rounding the shoulder as the shape of an actual bottle.
#Finally, use the smallest circles for the neck of the bottle.
There is a trick-skill needed so the bottle does not topple over.
-Use toothpicks between layers of the cake. You might find a center post which a small hole in the cake layers (doughnut or donut shape) may be slid over. The cake-bottle is then supported by this center pillar.
Use the appropriate color frosting (chocolate for a brown beer bottle) for the label.

Another method is to stack several layers of the same size securing them with frosting and/or dowels and then using a sharp serrated knife cut the cake into a bottle shape. Either way be creative with the bottle cap.
Advanced ides:
Make the top of the bottle wide enough to carve out a slot to place a can of beer. Siphon out the beer into a mug for the birthday boy. The same concept works for a cake-keg.
The cake recipe itself can include beer such as with a chocolate cake and stout beer. (It works well.)
