Famous Spanish Dishes
Spain is a very interesting country. Its history and traditions have always been fascinating. And what more, the food… rich, exotic flavours that would surely make you crave for more.
So, before your mind start to imagine those mouth-watering dishes, why not have a review of some of the famous Spanish dishes. Here they are…
Paella – When Spanish dining is involved, paella would be the first thing to pop in one's head. Considered as the most famous Spanish food, paella is a rice dish which originated in the Valencia region. Usually, there are three types of paella: Paella Valenciana, Seafood Paella and Paella Mixta (mixed paella).Paella Valenciana consists of rice, meats, vegetables, snails and seasoning. Seafood Paella is made with rice, a variety of seafoods, beans and seasoning. While Paella Mixta is a free-style combination of the two previously mentioned kinds of paella.
Arroz con leche – A rice pudding made with milk and sugar. Sometimes it is also done with cinnamon and lemon.
Cocido – A stew made with different meats, sausages, vegetables and garbanzo beans or chickpeas. The most famous is the Cocido Madrileño or Madrid Stew. In this version beef, ham, salt pork, chorizo, morcilla, a stewing chicken, garbanzos, potatoes, cabbage and carrots are the ingredients besides onion and garlic.
Gazpacho – a cold Spanish tomato-based raw vegetable soup, originating in the southern region of Andalusia.
Pescaito frito – is atraditional Shabbat fish dish common amongst Andalusian Jews. The deep-frying of the fish in vegetable oil makes it crisp and light even when eaten cold.
Torta de aceite - is a light, crispy and flaky Sevillian biscuit. It is made up of wheat flour, extra virgin olive oil, almonds, sesame seeds, anise seeds and anise flavor.
Fabada Asturiana – a rich bean stew with pork shoulder (lacon), morcilla, chorizo and saffron (azafran). Fabada is a heavay dish that's why usually it is eaten during lunch. It is usually served with a crusty bread, cider and or red wine.
