Evesham Vale

Where To Stay In England – Holiday Cottages In Worcestershire
Nestling between the Cotswolds, Shakespeare's Country and the Welsh Marches, the beautiful unspoilt county of Worcestershire offers a mixture of rolling countryside with acres of fruit orchards, the Malvern Hills, riverside towns, picturesque villages and the cathedral city of Worcester.
A popular destination for those visiting Worcestershire are the Malverns Hills - rising from the River Severn plain and forming a striking landmark visible from afar, although only nine miles long. It is difficult to walk on these hills, without hearing in one's mind one of the Enigma Variations by the county's most famous son - the great English composer Edward Elgar. Malvern's natural springs made it one of the most popular spa towns in the Victorian era, with many of the grand 19th century buildings remaining. Gushing from the hills is a well-known brand of bottled water.
With two of England's most famous rivers flowing through it - the Severn and the Avon Worcestershire is fertile land. From the tranquil banks of the river Avon to the undulating hills and peaceful wooded slopes of the Cotswolds, the Vale of Evesham offers some of the prettiest countryside in England. The Vale has been well known for its fruit and vegetable growing since medieval times - especially asparagus (don't miss the two-month long Asparagus Festival if you are visiting in May and June). In Spring there are dazzling displays of blossom from the many acres of plum and apple trees giving great swathes of colour.
In the south lies Broadway, the gateway to the Cotswolds. It is an attractive place and popular destination, often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds'. It's easy to see why people come here – the wide High Street, lined with horse chestnut trees, contains a mixture of period houses and picturesque honey-coloured Cotswold cottages - noticeably richer in colour than some other areas of the Cotswolds where the stone can be quite pale in colour.
The great cathedral of Worcester overlooks the River Severn. This was the setting for blood-letting and civil strife during the English Civil War - both the first and last battles were here. Worcester celebrates its Royal allegiance in its motto, The Faithful City. Apart from historical interests there are a variety of other attractions including riverside walks, boat trips and excellent high street and speciality shopping.
The modern era saw canals driven through from the north of the county to the Black Country from Stourport, and to Birmingham from Worcester. The famous Severn Valley Railway built to transport fresh produce and coal now still travels its steam-powered route from Kidderminster through the ancient wildwood of Wyre Forest – an excellent day out when staying at a holiday cottage in Worcestershire.
