What are some things I can do to celebrate Christmas in a German style?
I was thinking of making Gluhwein, what else can I do?
I live in a moderate-sized American city, do I might be able to find some specialized products if required.
I was born in Germany and moved to the US in 1986. We still today celebrate some of Christmas in German Style. On December 6th which is called Saint Nicholas, our children put their shoes outside their rooms before going to bed and find goodies in them the next morning. So our kids know that Christmas is about Jesus, because St. Nick comes on Dec. 6th. Gluehwein is great, even if it is not cold (we live in Georgia). We go to the Midnight service on Christmas Eve, which is a german custom. Also we let everyone in the family open one gift on Christmas Eve. Don't know why some people think that germans put real candles on their Christmas trees. My family has never done that. Don't know if you have an Aldi Store where you live. They do have german Christmas goodies this time of the year.
