The Case Of The Missing Adapter

This mishap left us without the electricity needed to provide you with this morning's edition of your favorite political blog, thus prompting us to skedaddle back to Casa de Capitol Ideas, where we found the rogue AC adapter[Laptop AC Adapter] sitting on the dining room table.

So with El Gato de Capitol Ideas keeping watch, here's a quick dose of this morning's news and the end -- for now -- of the cutesy Spanish surnames with which we've smothered these three brief paragraphs.

The Folks At CNN ...
... parachuted into the 8th CD contest between Murphy_058a Democratic U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy and Republican Mike Fitzpatrick who will duel their way across Bucks County this fall in much the same way that John Wayne and Victor McLaglen duked it out across the Irish countryside in "The Quiet Man."
Except in this case, the winner doesn't get to walk off into the sunset with Maureen O'Hara.
Nope, all they get is two years in Washington, which, these days, is starting to sound more like a court-ordered course of treatment and less like an award.
And, of course, the top issue is the economy.
"Well it's a tough environment. People are hurting out there," Murphy faith and begorra-ed to CNN's Dana Bash, "people are looking for work, the Bush administration and Mike Fitzpatrick ran it into a ditch and we're trying to grow jobs."
This, of course, prompted the usual Go Bragh yourself response from Fitzpatrick.
"Congressman Murphy has not been independent he has been a rubber stamp for the bad national policies of Nancy Pelosi," Fitzpatrick och aye'd in return.

State Treasurer Rob McCord ...
... is continuing his handbags-at-20-paces fight with the PA Gaming Control Board over whether he should be allowed to sit in on the agency's tedious public meetings and secretive executive sessions.
McCord is an ex officio member of the agency (from the Latin meaning "go away, McCord)", and gaming board officials don't believe he's allowed to sit in on executive sessions. Casino owners, of course, are welcome anytime ...

And Before We Get Hate Mail ...
... from gaming board's PR office, the above post employed a little-known literary device familiarly known as sarcasm. We've even provided a definition to eliminate any confusion.

The Post-Gazette ...
... (via the AP) runs down what life is like for former Rep. Mike Veon now that he's traded the halls of power for a prison cell in Somerset County.

For Those Of You ...
... who keep track of such things, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak will deliver a speech on the economy at 11 a.m. in Pittsburgh. The response from Republican Pat Toomey's campaign will arrive approximately 5 seconds after Sestak's final syllables stop echoing around the Three Rivers.

McKeesport Mayor Jim Brewster ...
... will run to fill the unexpired term of retiring state Sen. Sean Logan, D-Allegheny, who left the Senate on Aug. 24 to become an executive at UPMC, the Tribune-Review reports.

What Goes On (Nakedly Political Edition).
Good Lord, don't you people ever get tired of playing golf?? How about a croquet outing? Or a horseshoe toss? Or why not just dispense with the formalities and take the checks and spend the rest of the afternoon getting drunk on someone's deck?
Nonetheless, if you feel like you have spend an afternoon chasing a little ball around 18 holes, Rep. Mark Mustio holds his annual golf outing at Montour Heights Country Club in Coraopolis, Pa. Admission ranges from a mildly expensive $250 for an individual golfer to a truly offensive $10,000 if you want to play a foursome and be a "Legend of the Game."
Democratic Guv candidate Dan Onorato holds a cocktail reception at a private home in Sewickley, Pa. this evening (and, no, it's not Lynn Swann's house). Admission is $1,000 for an individual or $1,500 for a couple.
And Washington County state House candidate Brandon Neuman has an event tonight at the Hilton in Canonsburg, Pa. Admission is a flat $250.

In The Blogosphere.
No surprise here, GrassrootsPA reports that a bill to trim the size of municipal government is sinking fast; Above Average Jane puts on her book-reviewer's hat; Some interesting news about Bethlehem's pension fund -- via Bernie O'Hare; Gort on why good advance work is still a critical skill for candidates; PAWatercooler -- no fan of Mayor Nutter; Wonkette has your daily briefing; Red State fancies itself a new Paul Revere -- pass us another Samuel Adams; Daily Kos throws it open to the readers; As ever, DCist provides us with our Picture of the Day (TM), and here's this morning's Playbook.

On The Capitol Ideas iPod This Morning.
Some Talking Heads? Why, yes, please. Here's "Nothing But Flowers."

Tuesday's Gratuitous Soccer Link.
Bad news for Liverpool fans. Reds forward Dirk Kuyt will spend four weeks on the sidelines after injuring himself with botched bicycle kick. The Dutchman knacked himself during training ahead of Holland's Euro 2012 qualifier against Finland. The match is set for Tuesday in Rotterdam, Reuters reports.

OK. That's it for now. We'll be back later this morning with more news and updates. Stay tuned.
