Christmas Spectacular, A Very Special Music Extravaganza at The O2 Arena
The Christmas Spectacular 2009, a Raymond Gubbay production, was brought to the O2 Arena on 23rd December 2009 for the first time from The Royal Albert Hall, and was hosted by celebrity musician and Classical FM Radio presenter, Myleene Klass.
The O2 Arena has world-class facilities such as perfect sight-lines from every angle, crystal clear acoustic system and comfortable seats. It provides an amazing atmosphere and is a magnificent venue to hold spectacular events such as this.
Anthony Inglis, one of the world's most popular conductors led the choirs and conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a christmas carols sing-along which included "Good King Wenceslas", "The First Nowell", "O Come, All Ye Faithful", "God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing".
There were also outstanding performances from established soprano Alison Jiear and Stephanie Corley and tenor Jon Christos singing such favourites as Irving Berlin's "White Christmas", the Wizzard hit "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" and Bobby Helm's "Jingle Bell Rock".
Also participating in the Christmas Spectacular at the O2 Arena were two renowned choirs, The Royal Choral Society and the Metro Voices singing popular golden oldies like "The Christmas Song" and "Silent Night".
The atmosphere was electric in the O2 Arena and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was fantastic playing Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, a good selection of Christmas number one hits and traditional yuletide songs and christmas carols.
Throughout the concert there were special effects and laser light displays to add sparkle and magic to the event but the best bit of the Christmas Spectacular was left till the end when there was a special indoor fireworks display to delight the audience.
This Christmas Spectacular has certainly put everyone in a splendid mood to celebrate the start of the holiday preiod in fine style and had conjured all the delights and excitement of the festive season. It had provided a family-friendly evening which people can remember long past the festive season.
