Where Did That Margarita Come From?
For those who are a margarita lover, you most likely know just where to enjoy a terrific frozen margarita! You might even know how to make margaritas. However are you aware where and when your favorite frozen imbibement was first invented?
The margarita drink is undeniably considered one of Mexico's most respected gifts to the world! Not another refreshment elicits such vibrant visions of warm, sunny island paradises, playful reggae tunes, tiki hut bars and that inviting first gulp! This amazingThis remarkable cocktail has even been turned into a permanent part of popular culture in Jimmy Buffett's most famous song, "Margaritaville," and will forever be associated with the slogan "that frozen concoction" and the repetitive cry for, "salt, salt, salt!"
Whereas there are various versions of regular and frozen margarita recipe, the classic is still most margarita connoisseur' favourite: your preferred tequila, fresh squeezed lime juice (preferably from Key limes), Triple Sec (or the pricier Cointreau), and ice.... all offered up in margarita glasses whose rims have been covered with salt.
And therefore what is the actual genesis of the modern, much-loved frozen margarita recipe? Any beverage as in style and near perfect as the frozen margarita is bound to draw a number of individuals demanding credit for its birth.
One extremely popular legend is that the original margarita was concocted all the way back in the Nineteen Thirties in the town of Tijuana, Mexico, at the restaurant of Carlos "Danny" Herrera known as Rancho La Gloria. As is commonly the situation with new drinks, the original intent was to mask the harsh taste and burn of the alcohol, in this instance, tequila. Since tequila has long been enjoyed with lime and salt, all it took was a complimentary sweet ingredient, and the margarita was born. It would not be long before it was all thrown right into a blender and the first wonderful, slushy, frozen margarita recipe was adapted.
However Herrera doesn't get credit so quickly. Others consider that the margarita was created by a Dallas, Texas, socialite named Margarita Sames. Ms. Sames was said to have combined her namesake cocktail for some associates, while vacationing in Acapulco, in the late 1940s. While her claim is significantly later than Herrera's, it is nonetheless accepted by many - possibly because one of her company, hotelier Tommy Hilton, started offering the drink at his chain of hotels, which undoubtedly added to its popularity.
But wait, there's more. Ever heard of (or drank) Jose Cuervo tequila? Sure you have - if you have ordered a margarita at most establishments in America (and eastern Mexico). The spirit's first U.S. importer, Anthony Dias Blue, is accredited with originating the advertising slogan, "Margarita: it's more than a girl's name," back in the mid-1940s...a number of years earlier than the Sames vacation gathering.
However the frozen margarita recipe would not come into its full glory till 1971 (six brief years before the introduction of "Margaritaville" - coincidence?), when the world's first frozen margarita machine was created by Mariano Martinez, a Dallas restaurateur.
Ultimately, does it actually matter? As long as you have got a blender or a margarita machine, an incredible frozen margarita recipe, and a suitable frame of mind, the home of the margarita is wherever you are enjoying one!

They have to be plastic as my venue doesn't allow glass (on a pool deck). Does anyone know of anywhere that I can find these? I am down to 5 months and I am thinking I'll never find them!
