Making soap from scratch or with melt and pour soapmaking kits
There are basically two ways to get started with making soap at home. You can get started from scratch or you can it started with a melt and pour soap making base from a premade kit.
Let's talk about how to get started making soap from scratch. First you want to grab the right ingredients which are lye, water and oil. Of course you can make these ingredients much more complicated and add other things like natural coloring solutions such as indigo, or your own fragrances. But you would add these after you have already reached trace in the so making process and before molding and shaping your soap.
The reason why many people may choose to start so making from home with a premade melt and pour soap making kits is because with a premade soap base you won't have to deal with the chemical lye. Lye is a dangerous chemical that can burn skin and cause other problems. But as long as you handle it safely and correctly, there should be no problem. So you can choose to either learn about how to handle lye safely so that you can be comfortable with handling it, or you can bypass the handling of lye by just starting with a kit. A premade kit contains a melt and pour soap making base that has used to lye to make the base but no longer contains the chemical lye. This may sound a little bit confusing, but it's important to note. So essentially you cannot make soap without lye, but you can use premade soapmaking basis to make so making it easier because the lye is no longer contained in the base as long as the process has been done correctly.
And it may take a little bit of practice to do this process correctly at home.
The process of making soap from scratch involves pouring your lye into your filtered or softened water according to the measurements of your recipe. And then you need to mix this before adding the oil. And you can make Castile soap by using olive oil according to the proper measurements.
And I said pouring the lye into the water because this is the way it must be done. You can't pour the water into the lye. The reason is because you're basically mixing chemicals here and there is a right way to do it so that you don't get a volcano type mass with the dangerous chemical in your kitchen.
Remember that with all these ingredients you need to have pure ingredients. For example, when you're going to the store to buy olive oil you may see a bottle that says olive oil on it, but you want to check the ingredients on the back to make sure that it is pure 100% olive oil doesn't contain anything else.
And if you can't find a lie at your local hardware store or at any other store in your town, you should be able to find it online.
So if you don't want to start by making soap from scratch, or if you see soap making more as a hobby than as something you want to do seriously, then I would suggest starting with a melt and pour soap making kit.
These kits come with a soapmaking base that has a solvent and it so all that you need to do is melt it and then add whatever fragrance or natural coloring you want to add in order to customize the soap to your liking.
I mentioned indigo powder earlier which will turn your soap blue. You can also use alkanet powder, and you can use other things like oatmeal or lemongrass for health benefits and your soap. You can also use fragrances such as tea tree oil for health benefits and for the smell.
Soap making can be a very rewarding hobby and if you find that you enjoy it tremendously, you may be able to make some extra cash by making your own soap and selling it for profit.
But first you want to start by deciding which method you want to start with, and some basic recipes for how to customize your first soap. And if you're going to learn to make soap from scratch, you'll want to learn how to use the chemical lye correctly and safely so that you don't feel extremely uncomfortable handling it.
So go ahead and choose the path that you'll be taking to learn soapmaking at home and start making your own natural soap that you can enjoy and feel better about while you're taking care of your family and taking better care of your skin.

i have potting soil mix in my plant, can i still pour some "miracle gro bloom booster"?
is that possible? if it is, then i also add some fertilizers at the same time?
Yes not only is it possible but you really should.Even Miracle grow soil with 3 months of feeding really isn't enough for your plant to really flourish as well as it would with Miracle grow ready fertilizers.Not sure what kind of plant your using but so i wont tell you what type to use.My garden gets about 150 pounds of 19-19-19 broadcasted in spring and tilled under.And that takes about a month before the plants take it in.And after another month its all gone.So i put miracle grow for my tomato's on and miracle grow grass feed on my corn ( high nitrogen) This way is not for everyone but i like my garden to grow big with big veggies.When i put miracle grow on the plants take it right in.Unlike the dry type.Good luck just make sure your using a general type if your unsure on what the plant likes.My corn likes high nitrogen and my tomato's like low nitrogen.
