Biodegradable Vinyl Banners
We see them almost everyday. Hanging from skyscrapers, advertising a sale outside our favorite stores, or maybe you have even purchased one while planning a birthday party. Vinyl banners are the go-to tools used by many to get a message out there because they are durable and cheap. But at what cost to the environment? The fact is that these posters are used for a short time, taken down, and more often than not, thrown in the garbage and then taken to the landfill. Once in the landfill, that "Happy Birthday Steve!" sign that took you maybe five minutes to design, and the printers a few moments to make, will take anywhere from 500 to 700 years to even begin to break down.
Traditional vinyl banners are made of non-biodegradable PVC, or Polyvinyl Chloride, which is what makes them so resistant to the elements. Of course, throughout the production, use and disposal of PVC, one of the most deadly and potent toxins to both humans and animals is released- dioxin. PVC, once it even begins to breakdown, does so in a granulating fashion, meaning pieces only get tinier and easier for animals in the wild to ingest. So when the vinyl is thrown away, our world's animal population is being attacked by dioxin. Not to mention, a host of other toxins from the ink used to print the words and pictures onto the posters.
A few years ago, manufacturers began to take a step in the right direction. An eco-friendly, biodegradable vinyl substrate known as "BIOFLEX" was created. That means that now, there is the availability to print vinyl banners without heavy metals or toxic pesticides, bleaching agents, DOP or similar plasticizers, glycol either or carcinogenic coloring agents. There are no limitations on the BIOFLEX material either; one can print any size needed for event or marketing purposes. There is no difference in life expectancy for either indoor or outdoor use between regular high-grade vinyl and the BIOFLEX vinyl. This "green" vinyl utilizes organic plasticizers and fine particle limestone that allows it to be opaque and flexible. In comparison to the 500 to 700 years it takes for the millions of tons of normal vinyl banners to break down, the biodegradable make-up of BIOFLEX vinyl means that in 3 to 5 years, those discarded banners will decompose because the microbes within landfills that can recognize this new PVC in the BIOFLEX as a viable food source. The plasticizers used for BIOFLEX are extremely biocompatible and lack the phthalates in normal vinyl that have been proven to cause cancer, kidney and reproductive system damage.
Thankfully, with the introduction of this new material, your professional or personal projects can still publicize a message without being so destructive to the environment. By using BIOFLEX, we can continue to live and conduct business in a green fashion.

Catalog party selling vinyl wall decals?
I was given a catalog at work months ago for a home based party that featured vinyl decals for walls and decoration. I can't remember the name of the company and now can't get ahold of the coworker who had the party. Anyone know what this company is called? They had a website and you could locate local sales reps and place orders online. It was similar to a Pampered Chef party but with the decals.
