Are teachers allowed to let 7yr olds use a sharp knife in school to cut veg?
i say they shouldn't be allowed because my son used one an cut his thumb in class kids get shown how to use a knife in high school anyway am going into school in a few hours an complaining to the headteacher about it.
I am a primary teacher and in schools like that children are allowed to use sharp knifes but under the eyes of complete supervision. Therefore I would have a classroom assistant and all children would be given an activity to do at their desks, then myself and the classroom assistants would call the children out one by one to do the cutting activity so the child would be completely supervised but as every person knows even when you have your eyes on a child they can still injure themselves. It sounds like it wasn't a serious cut and he will learn from it. By complaining to the school you are going to make a big issue out of it, and there really isn't an issue to be made. However you are the parent and he is your child so you have the right to complain. Personally I wouldn't I think the best course of action would be to go to the teacher and say that your son came home with a cut and you would like to know how it happened. Explain that you are not happy with him using a knife and that if this activity arises again you would rather he did something else or use a plastic knife (to be honest I have seen children hurting themselves with these as they have to press so hard to try and cut anything!) Hope you get the situation sorted and your sons cut heals soon.
