Okay so last night i was cutting potatoes on one of those razor sharp slicer things and i cut my finger almost to the bone. If i poke it open you can see fats and tissue and stuff. Also it still is bleeding off and on. I am a type one diabetic, so i know that it is going to have a harder time healing because so and because my sugar is not under control. I hate to admit it but its true. i was just diagnosed about two months ago and things are still iffy. My sugar can be anywhere from 20-500+. Any way with all this explanation i was wondering what i should do about my cut. i have a couple band-aids on it. but when i move my finger i can feel it ripping open because it hasn't started to even scab or anything. Is there any other better way to let it heal.
hun, the best thing to do is see your Dr for treatment of the cut.
Its not just a lil cut, and with diabetes, things like this can end up terribly worse. Ive cut my index finger on both hands in similar ways, two different times. One was deep enough I too could see fat and muscle tissue. I just went in to my regular Dr's office immediately after it happened with out an appointment, and he stitched it up for me in the office with a local anesthetic. He wrapped it in a finger splint to keep movement from re-opening the cut. I kept the area dry, and applied Betadyne regularly and some Neosporin. I still have funky nerve damage but its so minute it doesn't bother me. It would have never healed properly without the stitches.
A couple band-aids won't cut it. Before you get into have it stitched, wrap it in gauze and secure it with medical tape or the flexible bandage wrap. Then try to secure your finger in a splint or even popsicle stick. Use rubber/surgical gloves to keep it dry when you shower or wash your hands. All these things you can find at the local pharmacy.
Definitely see your Dr.
Also in regards to your new diagnosis and wacky numbers, hang in there. Most all us diabetics go through extreme ups and downs in the beginning until we can get a hang of things like correct dosage, diet and just getting to know diabetes and our bodies. I would strongly recommend you speak to a diabetic specialist or nutritionist to get you familiarized with a diabetic diet, and nutrition in general. Eventually things will even out for you.
