Do I have to soak my sharpening stone before using it?
I have a sharpening stone, It doesn't say whether it's a water stone or an oil stone, so I'm using water.
I'm wondering if I need to soak it in water before using it because when ever I put water on it it just soaks it in within like half a second and it doesn't sit on top.
And I don't think I can sharpen my straight razor without lubricant on the stone.
It's far better to use thin grade oil as it helps clean the stone & besides when sharpening an item do it in such a way that you rotate in figure 8 circular motions all over the stone, other wise you can wear the stone out in one place. To the point when one day you will want to sharpen something of a larger size & the stone will be uneven.
