Eating For Excellent Health Now - Eating a Healthy Diet
Eating doesn't have to be a trial but it shouldn't engulf you either. Can you begin eating for excellent health now without starving yourself? Take a look at your eating habits. Can you go around the buffet table without picking something from every dish? No? Perhaps these tips will help make your eating habits, whether at home or at a restaurant, a bit healthier.
1. Smaller meals -
o Eat six small meals instead of three large ones. By satisfying your hunger pangs before they overwhelm you, you can defeat hunger before it takes over.
2. Eat your favorites first -
o Eat what you enjoy. When fixing your plate try selecting only two or three of your favorite things. Just because there's plenty of options doesn't mean you have to eat all of them. At restaurants appetizer samplers as an entrée and doggie bags can help you accomplish this in a pinch. Eating for excellent health now does not mean you have to sacrifice your taste buds.
3. Roughage -
oRoughage is otherwise known as greens. Romaine, leafy green, arugala, spinach, and kale have excellent nutritional value and flavor. Iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value and does no more then add calories to your waist line. Roughage also helps detour your sweet tooth before it annihilates that three tier strawberry shortcake, so eat your salad last, not first.
4. Visible snacks -
oBeing lazy is good for something. Think I'm kidding? Studies have suggested that if a healthy snack is readily available, meaning within arms length, the average person will munch on that instead of sweets in the break room. So be lazy! Keep healthy snacks within eye sight and arms length.
5. Snack bags -
o When was the last time you snacked on two bags of Cheese Doodles? One snack bag feels like a snack but two is heading towards a binge. This is one thing that most of us can restrain ourselves from doing. Pack a few small snack bags (sandwich bags work great!) with healthy treats and keep them near at hand.
6. Combine snacks -
o The healthiest snacks are usually those that combine food groups. Think trail mix. Nutritional value, flavor, and variety. Can't get better then that! Try some of these delicious pairings!
a. Apples and peanut butter
b. Organic crackers and hummus (a personal favorite!)
c. Graham crackers and peanut butter
d. Yogurt and dried fruit
e. Cheese and fruit
Eating for excellent health now is more then just limiting the sugar and fat intake, although that certainly helps, it's about being reasonable and understanding what it is you are putting into your body. Most diets don't work. Why? Most people don't like sacrificing their favorites or weighing everything just to lose a pound a week. That doesn't mean you can't be healthier though. Being healthy requires a habit change, and just like biting your nails, it can be hard to beat. But eating sensible is much easier then eating less!

I want to make strawberry shortcake but in a regular rectangle pan as a birthday cake.
Could someone please give me a recipe & tips on how to do this. Please help I need it for the 4th of july!!
OLD FASHIONED STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 level tablespoons cold butter
ice water to make a stiff dough (3 to 4 tablespoons)
soft butter to moisten shortcake after baking
3 cups fresh, sliced strawberries that have been dredged and allowed to stand in sugar at room temperature for an hour (or refrigerate if kept longer).
Heavy cream for topping the cake
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
This very old recipe makes a crisp shortcake (somewhat like a large biscuit) rather than a soft fluffy cake, in the old fashioned style of strawberry shortcake.
Combine dry ingredients and cut in the shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal.
Add water and mix until a ball of dough forms.
Turn the dough out on a floured board and pat it flat and round until cake is about an inch thick.
Bake until golden, about 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven, and with a sharp, heated knife, carefully split it and butter it as you would a biscuit. Put strawberries inside the still-hot buttered cake.
Pour a small amount of heavy cream over each serving just before bringing to the table.
REGULAR STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter, cold and cut into chunks
7/8 cup milk
Serve with:
creme filling, confectioners sugar, strawberries and strawberry sauce, a sprig of mint for garnishing
Mix and sift together dry ingredients. Working shortening with fingertips or a pastry cutter as you would make a pie crust or biscuits. Work quickly and keep everything cold.
And liquid gradually and blend only enough to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a lightly floured board. Roll lightly to 1/2" thickness.
Cut into 3 inch squares or with a round to 1/2" cookie cutter, or cut into six to seven inch circles for large shortcakes.
Bake in a preheated 450°F oven until shortcakes are crisp and very light and color, and this will depend on what size shortcake has been cut; the smallest been cooked in as little as 10 minutes or less, and the largest requiring 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your oven. Keep a sharp eye out and watch constantly to avoid scorching.
When done, remove from oven and allow to cool on wire racks, then split into halves as soon as possible.
Serve with a creme filling of whipped cream or pastry cream and top with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, and chocolate shavings.
Sprinkle with confectioners sugar and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
EASY STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE
Small marshmallows
1 white cake mix
1 pk strawberry Jello
1 pk frozen strawberries
1 container Cool Whip
Layer pan with marshmallows. Mix cake mix according to directions. Microwave strawberries to thaw for 1 min. Add Jello. Sprinkle a layer of marshmallows over cake. Put Jello and Strawberry mixture over marshmallows. Bake according to directions on box. Refrigerate. When cake is cooled add Cool Whip on top and serve
