Granite Countertop Intsallation Process
A granite countertop is very expensive so you would normally want it to last for a long time. But it doesn't matter how strong the granite is, if the granite installation is not done correctly, it won't last very long. It's therefore very important to know the right steps to take for a successful installation. Obviously, if you don't possess the skills or the tools, it will be foolish to do it yourself. On the other hand, when you give the job to the professionals, you still need to know what they are supposed to do. Only then can you know if they are doing it rightly or not.
You can ensure the correct installation of your granite countertop by carefully observing the following steps.
But it's still possible to save some money by doing the pre-installation work yourself. This part does not need any special skills because it will only involve the dismantling of your former countertop, if there is any, and preparing the location where the new granite countertop will be installed.
Correct Installation Process
• The supplier should first visit you in order to measure up for the job ahead. It's at this point that you will need to decide where the sink and other fixtures are to be located. Then he will make the template that will be used for the actual installation.
• Next, the countertop needs to be leveled. They will put metal rods and plywood on top of your cabinet. Aside from leveling the countertop, it will also provide strong support for its weight.
• The countertop is now ready to be glued to the plywood, using clear silicone or other non-expanding glues. Care is taken not to use excessive amounts of glue.
• The granite surface is sealed. After that the grouts are placed on the seams and allowed to dry.
• Sealing of the seams follows and the granite edges are treated to smoothen up the countertop perimeter. Any additional trims and decorations are added at this stage.
• The last step is the polishing of the entire countertop surface. This will give the granite countertop its final smooth and shiny finish.
If you follow these steps to installing your granite countertops, you can be sure your countertop will last long. It is indeed a big investment and it is only proper that all these necessary details must be followed so that their durability will be guaranteed.
