When it comes to your fruits and vegetables choices, there are plenty of varieties to choose from and we can only be overwhelmed with those healthy greens, yellows, reds and oranges. No one can deny the fact that having a serving of these super foods are essential in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet everyday.
Eating more of these green foods is one of the oldest advises in the world of healthy living, and this comes with a time-tested wisdom which we can all benefit from. When one eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, it means having a lower risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, vision loss and having that inner shield to ward off the damaging effects of free radicals which can lead to cancer.
When is plenty just enough? This is a question plaguing many people who want to take a hearty serving of these beneficial fruits and vegetables everyday. If one will not include potatoes in this diet, an average American must get a total of three servings daily. Dietary guides call for two 1/2 to six 1/2 cups a day, which is dependent on a person's caloric intake. If a person is on a program of 2,000 calories a day, this means having four 1/2 cups daily - which can be portioned equally in halves.

Know how to count cups. What counts to 1 cup of fruits and vegetables would mean having to put it on your kitchen's measuring cup. There are on-line charts which can guide you on measuring every serving.

Know the exception to the rule. When it comes to counting cups, you need 2 cups for your raw, leafy greens, like lettuce, to get the equivalent of a cup. Dried fruits need only 1/2 cup since the water has already been drained out.

Use Potatoes sparingly. According to the Healthy Eating Pyramid Chart made by the Harvard School of Public Health, these taters should not be counted amongst vegetables, due its high starch content.

V8, Naked - other fruit/veggie drinks: Are they a good fruit/veggie substitute?
If I have a day that I do not consume proper veggie portions, how smart/stupid is it to substitute with a 100% veggie/fruit juice drink?

it better than no veggies. probably better to go to a natural food store and have them juice you something. v8 has some fiber, vitamin c and potassium. not much of anything else
