Personalised Wine Labels
I'm no pro when it comes to wine. I know if it tastes nice and I've learnt about whether it has ‘legs', but that really is about it. It hasn't stopped me getting tips though. For example, one theory I've been told involves that indentation on the bottom of the bottle. You know – the bit that essentially goes up into it? Apparently, if you want to bag yourself a fine wine in your price range, you need a bottle with a nice, deep dent underneath. It's based, you'd assume, on the idea that because you're getting fractionally less wine for your money, what is there must be really rather good. I remain sceptical.
The second tip, however, is easier to grasp – never buy a bottle with a sketch of the vineyard on the label. No idea why, it's just what I've heard. It could be nonsense. But again, I suppose some people reckon it makes the wine look cheaper. It's funny, though, how wine labels influence what bottles we buy. I know when I'm stood in the supermarket eyeing up their ‘3 for £10' deal, my preference for a certain label may win out over another. I've even been known to pick a cheaper bottle – thus reducing my saving – because I like the label more than its pricier contemporaries.
