On a 3 way switch, is it ok if the "hot" wire is connected to a brass terminal on same side of common?
This appears to be how one of the switches is set up. I assume then that one of the travelers is connected to the common terminal which may explain why one of the switches has to be "on" for the opposite switch to function? I am trying to fix this problem but easily get confused with all the wiring!!!
Hot traveler wire has to be hooked to the outgoing brass top terminal and will travel to the common terminal on the next switch.
